In this case study, the
researchers analyze deeply the structural stability and integrity of the
existing building and the additional extension building. This study is being
done to check or ensure the safety of the building occupants and the people
around it. This study also gives emphasis on the connections between safety and
structural design. Structural design is a systematic and methodical study of
the stability of the structure, strength and rigidity of the structure to
resist forces. The basic intention of design is to ensure that the structure or
the building with the stands the entire probable loads for a stipulated period
of time. The design also takes care of durability issues to avoid occurring cracks,
leakages, excessive vibrations and deflections. This means, carefully
structurally designed buildings take care of safety and well being of the users
and the people around it. But it doesn’t end on the design alone, this study
wants to ensure that it will be implemented correctly and religiously. Licensed
professional and technical personnel must supervise proper implementation. It
also would like to showcase if the building really serves its purpose. In basic
terms, arranging includes working out different option auxiliary frameworks
considering the different useful prerequisites chiefly for the security of the inhabitants.
That it can be functional anytime it is needed. It is not only dealing with a
few occupants but thousands of students, which could be affected if the
building is not structurally stable. It also ensures that the building and its
components, from the smallest light bulb to the biggest fixtures are all
environment friendly and sustainable, which includes mercury in fluorescent
lamps being replaced by LED or Light-emitting Diode. In the concept of
sustainability, every project should consider the use of solar panels as an
alternative source of electricity and energy. In addition to that, every
building should be subjected to HIRAC short for Hazard Identification Risk
Assessment and Control, which is a tool responsible in ensuring the safety of
every facility in any building projects. Every area, section and equipment
should be examined thoroughly using the HIRAC method in obtaining safety
certifications of the building or the establishments. There are many kinds in
controlling hazards, such as loose open wires, leakages and etc. You can either
eliminate the hazard, substitute or replace by engineering controls, administrative
control using signage and warnings or by use of personal protective equipment.
