Libraries are important centerpieces of a healthy society. Libraries give people the chance to boost their careers, explore scientific discoveries, experience new concepts, get lost in enchanting myths and stories, while at the same time providing a feeling of a place of accumulation and gathering. What is so amazing about a public library?  Everything! Just think where else could anybody borrow a book with only a card and promise to return it for free? Not that they skip to return but people actually bring the library book back & return it in the exact same condition. It seems like it would never work, but libraries have been successful for hundred of years. People value libraries as enjoyable recreational and academic additions to their communities. A library offers a wealth of resources, space to study etc.Libraries display different personalities, and needs of our society.  Those needs are often quite large, and the assistance provided by all Wake County Libraries is beyond what any citizen in the county can ask for.Wake County Public Libraries are often the only source of understandable information needed by people for personal, family, and job-related purposes.  Our country’s economy benefits when business people use library material to make wise entrepreneurial decisions, employees use it to upscale their job skills, or when the poor use it to help break themselves from the prison of poverty.  During economic struggles, our citizens look up to and depend on the library. When adults are free from the chains of poverty,  money saved can ultimately go to the benefits of their family members, especially their kids. In this way, libraries help everyone’s economic and family health in a very indirect, but powerful way. Some people may argue that libraries are impractical and are a form of inconvenience because of the frequent visits that you would have to take. Although, if you choose not to participate in any events, most libraries, and all Wake County libraries have the offer open for customers to check out online books and e-audios, things that are always handy on your phone, or any other device.Libraries also have a lot of impact on me personally as well. More specifically, the Teen Leadership Corp. This program has given me, and many other kids of my age multiple opportunities to show our talent through events such as Teen Performance Night. Many other events such as Meditation Night, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and my favorite, the Christmas Parade have given me several chances to meet new people and etch new experiences into my life. For young and growing minds, a library is the place to go. It is quiet and serene. It has big tables and fairly, comfortable chairs. It has an atmosphere of studiousness, introspection, meditation,  and peace of mind. It is a sanctuary. Nobody bothers you and there are people to help you as well. You feel you could find almost anything you wanted for entertainment or enlightenment. Children of all age feel that they could make wonderful discoveries of books that will change lives and of authors who will become your friends. The rest of the world seems far away. Everybody in the building seems to be sharing the same secret. This is the best place to be. Libraries are the temple to a youth’s peace of mind. The transformation of the library since the dawn of history technology continues to improve, capturing me in interest. We have gone from the use of  papyrus scrolls, encyclopedias and other reference books to computer labs in the library.  I am left wondering how long before many of the stacks of books are replaced with electronic versions to be downloaded to the various technological platforms. We still struggle to keep up with the many advances in technology, hiking prices in books and other materials, staff salary, budget shortages, and an increasing demand for more material from our customers and users. As heads of the community, I ask you to make an allegiance to your local library and just  spare some of your time to offer service to such amazing public places and events. The economic and intellectual health, welfare, and progressions of our society depend on you and the citizens that we all choose to become.
