Many people believe that the Salem Witch Trials were just all about hangings, and bad stuff. That stuff happened, but more things happened that made it come down to hangings and executions. In this essay, I will be talking about some stuff from the Salem Witch Trials. Around the year of 1692, in Massachusetts the Salem Witch Trials began. More than two hundred people were accused of practicing witchcraft- the devil’s magic, and twenty of those people were executed. The Salem Witch Trials actually officially began in February of 1692, when the afflicted girls accused the first three victims, Tituba, Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne, of witchcraft. Many people were accused over the slightest questioning of different behavior. In Salem, people would just tell on everyone of witchcraft, and soon the whole town was just worried of being accused of it, even when some people never practiced it. In one case, a man and a few others were accused of witchcraft, so the executioners gave him one chance to tell who else practiced it, but he wouldn’t tell them a single word. So, he was crushed to death for lying to them. Soon after, people told the truth so that they wouldn’t be killed, but they were hung most of the time. During this time, many people told on others, trying to keep themselves out of trouble. It didn’t really work, because any accused person had a court hearing, and then if they were still believed to be practicing witchcraft, they would be taken somewhere to either confess of their sins, or be executed. On the month of May, 1963 the Salem Witch Trials finally came to an end. The town could finally breathe again, and not have to be worried about being accused of practicing witchcraft and didn’t have to worry about being hung or executed for something they never even did. In conclusion, witchcraft was taken serious back in 1962 and 1963. Any person accused of it was in deep trouble. Today, people look at it as fantasy, that the devil can’t rule your body. In my opinion I believe the same, that the devil can’t take over myself. Some people have different thoughts about it, and there are still parts about the Salem Witch Trials that nobody even knows about.
