Part 2. 1. Dominants group sets and controls the value system in the society. They set the parameters to which the subordinate group operates. It is a group with power, privileges and social status in the society. They have advantages and privileges that they did not earn by their deeds, but simply by virtue of their group identity. They are the considered ‘norm'(normal).( Ei the idealized identities of white male heroes). The dominant group makes the rules and they also determine which is right and wrong. Dominants group don’t think about subordinate groups and don’t understand their reality. They have their culturally accepted stories about why they are superior, and deserve the advantages and benefits they have. On the other hand subordinate group is considered as an abnormal or deviant in the society. The world is not arranged to benefit and provides convenience to them. They always have to find a way to help themselves to the way the world is structured. They have a hard time getting the best jobs available because the dominant group gets them all. They need to follow all the rules or else they might face a serious consequences.  For an instance, I have a friend of mine who is Filipino., Her name is Clarisse. She graduated in college last year and got her diploma in Business Accounting. She works at a company, she does office job(I don’t exactly know which company she works for.) Since she’s not getting enough hours at her current work, she decided to look for another part-time job. She saw online that there was a job opening at this hospital. She applied as a receptionist. After a couple of days, she got email from them telling her when and where she’s gonna be doing her interview. She had her interview with a middle-aged white male (assuming he’s one of the doctors or physician at the hospital, he didn’t really introduce himself much) He started off with harsh comments about my friend. The guy asked Clarisse what was she thinking, why would she apply on this type of job  knowing that she’s not capable and qualified of that job. He also told her that she worked at Tim Hortons before and now she wants to have this type of job. He said the she should just work there because that is what suits her. The funny thing is, my friend never worked at Tim Hortons. The guy who interview her was judging her based on her background knowing that most Filipinos work at Tim Hortons. He did not even put effort on reading my friends resume before evaluating her. 2.Morality is driven by two separate mental systems, one ancient and modern. The ancient system is the moral intuition, it is based on the emotion-laden moral behaviours which evolved before the development of language. The emotional responses of moral intuition occur instantaneously , they re primitive gut reactions that evolve to generate split-second decisions and enhance in survival in a dangerous world. While the modern system, he calls it moral judgement — came after the language, when people became able to articulate why something was right or wrong. Moral judgement comes later, as the conscious mind develops a plausible rationalization for the decision already arrived at through moral intuition.  People who identified themselves as liberals attached great weight to the two morals systems protective of individuals, those of not harming others, and of doing as you would be done by. Liberals assigned much less importance to the three moral system that protect the group, those of loyalty, respect for authority and purity. On the other hand, conservatives value all the five moral systems but they assigned less weight than liberals to the moralities protective of individuals. Dr. Haidt believes that many political disagreements between liberal and conservative may reflect the different emphasis each places on five moral categories Conservatives fears that subversive art will undermine authority, violate the in groups tradition and offend canon son purity and sanctity. Liberals ,on the other hand, see contemporary art as protection equality by assailing the establishment.” A liberal morality will encourage much greater creativity but will weaken social structure  and deplete social capital.” While “Conservatives give more charity and tend to be more supportive if essential institutions like military and law enforcement”. -Haidt.  Societies need people with both types of personality. 3. ” The Stanford Prison Experiment”is a perfect example of how the environment can  influenced people to commit evil behaviour. They conducted a study of psychology of imprisonment. They assigned the selected student to be either guard or prisoner. These student adopted to their role as a “prisoner” rapidly. As a result, the guards have become authoritative. They began using increasingly degrading form of punishment. Both groups, rapidly took on their behaviours associated with their roles, not because they were told to do so but the situation itself. Both groups embraced their new identity. The students adapted to their roles rapidly and became very aggressive because they thought it was the right thing to do. They thought that that’s how prisoners were supposed to behave. Guards became really  authoritative and started hurting the prisoners physically because they also thought that punishing prisoners  the way they behaved was their role.  Heroic imagination can be cultivated in order to promote more heroic behaviours by means of amplifying the voice of most quiet heroes by promoting new research, networks, education to promote heroic imagination and empower all people of all nations and ages to engage in ordinary acts of heroism. Democratizing the concept that everyone can be a hero, that you don’t have to be special to be one. It’s ordinary people doing extraordinary acts. We also need to diffuse away from the notion of solitary heroes, because heroes are most effective in team, ensembles and networks. Doing daily deed everyday to make somebody feel special. 4. Orientalism in Indigenous people  is a way of seeing exaggerated and distorted  views and differences of Indigenous  peoples and cultures as compared to that of Europe and the U.S.The European started generalizing the attributes they associated with Orientals in their literary works and  media sources. Because of this, it created unpleasing images of Orientals in the European mind and infused bias in the European attitudes toward the Orientals.  Because of Orientalism, Aboriginals suffered and still suffering in the present. On the article On the side of the angels by Kusugaks, They isolated children from the influence of their homes, families, traditions and cultures, and to assimilate them into the dominant culture. They were prohibited to speak the mother tongue too. They sent them to residential schools. Some of them were sexually abused by the nuns in the convent. Not only they took their children away but also took over their lands, they controlled and ruled it. The missed the things they could have done when they were just children like hunting, skinning and igloo building.
